Car damaged by debris from a skip lorry

I was driving down the motorway last week when a lorry in front of me, hauling a skip, switched lanes into mine. As he did this debris from the skip hit my car causing a chip to the bodywork and a crack in the windscreen. I've taken the reg and the phone number of the waste management company that the lorry is a part of. Do I have a right to claim and how would I go about it?

Yes, because the debris falling off counts as an insecure load. Report it to the police. Get a crime number (if you can). Send the bill to the skip lorry company. If they don't pay, sue them in the small claims track of the county court. Be aware that you may not have enough evidence to be successful.
