BMW 318d N47 engine failure

I have a five year old 318d with a N47 engine that has suffered a cam chain failure resulting in an engine write-off. BMW have offered to cover 50% of the cost of parts which brings an £11400 estimate down to £6800plus the £472 already spent is assessing the vehicle. This essentially writes off a very nice vehicle. They will only offer £1k part exchange and only against a vehicle from the dealership. I feel that this offer is extremely miserly especially as this is a known fact with this type of power unit. Be grateful for suggestions as to where to go wth this. Thank you.

Get in touch with www.fer.co.uk and see if you can find a member willing to source and recondition a viable replacement engine. The sums offered by BMW and its dealer are plainly ridiculous. If you bought the car from the same dealer that has serviced it all of its life you could attempt to take action against the dealer under Sale of Goods: www.honestjohn.co.uk/faq/consumer-rights/
