Golf Mk7 - EA189 Engine or EA288?

John, thanks for the great coverage of the VW emissions scandal ... by far the best commentary I've found anywhere.

Are you able to just clarify something from a response to another question? I have interpreted your response as meaning that a Golf Mk V7 will have the EA288 engine and not the EA189, which is the only engine that is implicated (so far). Is that correct?

Whilst I understand that this could escalate further, I have a Golf GTD on order at the moment and, if it will have the EA288 engine, I can relax ... for a while anyway.

Yes, to my knowledge that is correct. The EA288 is manifold in head and has a double loop EGR. Basically, any EU6 Volkswagen engine is in the clear and it has been illegal to sell anything else as new since 1st September 2015.

I can't find the EU5/6 rating given on V5 document. Please say exactly where it is stated? Skoda Scout supplied new registered 25/8/15.
I own a Skoda Octavia 1.6 Greenline II. It looks as though this has a EA189 engine as well as the 2.0 engines. Can you confirm this?
