Volkswagen 1.4 TSI engine failure

I bought a 59 reg VWGolf 1.4 TSI three years ago from my local dealer with 27000 miles on the clock. It has now done just 47000 and needs a new engine! It has been serviced by the dealership as per the service schedule. I have hardly had any problems with it but last week the engine management light came on. I took it to the dealers who found low compression on one cylinder and that they would have to strip the engine to find the cause(at my expense). They added that "in their experience it would require a new engine. I decided on a second opinion and took it to a Volkswagen approved garage who were able to find the cause as a cracked engine block without dismantling the engine.

Truly massive number of reported faults on the Golf Mk VI (sadly). With the 1.4 TSI it's usually failure of the timing chain, but have had one other repost of a cracked block on 3-12-2014. See: www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/volkswagen/golf-vi-2...d

Comfortable and quiet on the move, enjoyable to drive. Nicely trimmed with great attention to detail. 1.4 TSI sweeter to drive than a diesel.
