New Mazda MX-5 delays

I placed a pre-order direct with Mazda for the new Mazda MX-5 (a 2.0 Sport Nav) in May this year with a delivery estimate of 1st-30th September. For a number of reasons, just one of which was to stand some chance of use in the remainder of this year's warm weather, I stipulated that September delivery was to be a condition of my order. I've just had notification that estimated delivery of all 2.0 models is not now until the end of October. I've asked the dealer why the 2.0 has been delayed and been told it's due to quality control issues for the 2.0 - are you able to elaborate any further?

A possible reason is manufacturer corporate average emissions ratings. If average emissions for a manufacturer's total sales over 2015 exceed 130g/km CO2 then they get fined, and this is probably the reason for the emphasis on the lower 139g/km CO2 emission 1.5 engine and the delay in supplying the 161g/km CO2 2.0 litre model.
