Fuel economy in a Mitsubishi Outlander

I have a 2013 Mitsubishi Outlander GX4 manual and no matter how gently I drive the car (I drive the car extremely gently to try to get good economy) I can't get more than 40mpg - official figures 52.3mpg combined. Can the car's electronics to re-set to factory settings by the dealer or are there any other techniques that I could use?

I got 45 put of the previous Outlander with the 2.2 chain cam Mitsubishi diesel engine. You could try better diesel. The engine will have been calibrated and optimised for the very best diesel in order to stand the bast chance in the ECDC tests. If you run it on inferior fuel you will get inferior performance, fuel economy and emissions. But you're highly unlikely to ever achieve the lab test figures.
