Fiat Grande Punto gearbox problems

I find that sometimes it's difficult to change gear in my Fiat Grande Punto (2008). Either I can't push the lever into the next gear - especially third to second - or it crunches on third to fourth.

My local Fiat dealer can't diagnose the problem and recommended a new clutch (£500). Do you think a new clutch would fix the problem?

Reads as if the synchromesh cones have worn. You should anyway increase revs when changing down to give a smoother change and prevent damage to the synchromesh cones.
