Front windscreen wipers won't work but motor is working

The wipers on my 2000 Skoda Fabia have stopped working. The motor is working and the lever inside car clicks when flicking it up as if it is trying to work but no power is getting to it. Any ideas?

Either the mechanism has bent from being strained when the wiper blades were stuck to the screen by ice, or a joint pin has dropped out. In temperatures like this week's (if you live in a non vandal area) it's a good idea to leave your wipers sticking up like they do in Austria, so the blades don't stick to the screen.
