Smokey C-MAX - what's up?

Just bought a 54 plate 1.6 TDCI Ford C-MAX. On the way home I noticed large puffs of smoke out of the exhaust when accelerating. I've had a quick scan on some forums about the issue and it seems it could be down to the EGR.

Upon looking at the paperwork with the car I found this had been replaced at the beginning of the year but may well not been re programmed as it was done at an independent garage rather than a ford dealer.

The car has come with a 6 month AA warranty and I'm wondering if this would be covered by it. Any help would be greatly received as I've spent all my savings on this new car and doubt I can afford a garage bill to fix it.

Might be the EGR, might be the turbo bearing oil seal, might be the valve stem oil seals. Check both the C-Max and Focus 2004-2008 entries in www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar for a lot more on issues with this engine. But in answer to your question, yes, because the fault came with the car the dealer who sold it to you is responsible.
