Dealer wants £500 to fix broken heater in Skoda Fabia

The heater in my Skoda Fabia won't work until about 20 miles into a trip. My local dealer has quoted £500 to replace it. Any suggestions?

If the heater matrix is blocked then the cost is for the huge amount of tricky dismantling involved to get it out and replace it. The only cheaper way would be to find someone who can do it faster at a lower labour rate.
