Buying a replacement for a BMW 520D Touring?

I am about to replace my 2007 BMW 520D Touring. I now average about 6000 miles per year and believe that a move to petrol seems to be the economic choice. I do not wish to sacrifice the comfort and toys that come with the BMW SE (Sat Nav, 6 CD, CD/MP player, etc) and would prefer the capacity of an estate, although a large hatchback might also do the job.

I am considering a Mazda 6 which you have given very good reviews. Are there any other makes and models I should consider?

A Mazda 6 is excellent and is also extremely strong (a woman in a Citroen rear-ended mine, merely cracking the rear bumper cover of the Mazda, but smashing up the front of her Citroen.

A new Mondeo is about to arrive at silly prices to allow for massive fleet discounts. Volvo is about to introduce its own new 2.0 litre petrol engines for the V60 and V70.

Jaguar is also about to launch it's new 2.0 litre chain cam Ingenium petrol and diesel engines.
