Can I change my Nissan Primera's low profile tyres for something else which reduces tramlining?

My Nissan Primera 2.0 SVE tramlines awfully on its Falkon 215/50 R17 tyres - I feel that the car is driving me. I also feel the ride is poor, with a lot of noise from almost any road surface. Can you suggest tyres which would lessen the tramlining and produce less road noise? I don't want performance as I keep to under 60mph. I would rather have comfort than performance. Could I change from the low profile tyres fitted?

Switch to 15-inch or 16-inch wheels with deeper profile tyres from a scrappie, from a lower grade model in the Primera range.
