Could a blown bulb have caused a starting problem on my Vauxhall Corsa SXI?

I have a Corsa SXI. For the last six weeks it has had a intermittent problem - sometimes it would start and sometimes it wouldn't. My mechanic has spent hours trying to find out what is causing it. Fuel pump is fine, coil pack is fine, all the main things were fine. My engine management light had blown about six weeks ago about the same time as all the trouble started. Anyway, the car wouldn't start last night and I got towed home. The mechanic replaced the bulb and now the car is great. Is it possible that a blown bulb could do this?

Sounds very unlikely but if it's now working then who knows! If it happens again it's worth trying the same fix to see if it works again.
