What should I replace my 2002 Ford Fiesta with?

My husband wrote off my 2002-plate 1.4 diesel Fiesta and I am now left with the quandary of what to replace it with. I need a diesel because of the amount of miles I do each year. I also have three small children and live in rural Aberdeenshire, so the car needs to be able to cope with snowy conditions - which the Fiesta did admirably with winter tyres on. I have looked at a 52 Fiesta with 32,000 miles and FSH at £3500, and an '06 Kia Rio diesel with 15,000 miles for £5288 pounds so far, but am frankly overwhelmed by the huge choice out there. The other option is to go for a small 7-seat MPV to accompany our other car, a Ford Galaxy, as we often have to take other children or family. What's your advice?

KIA Rio diesels are pretty good. Fiesta 1.6 diesels are particularly frugal and decent to drive. I can't see the point of running two 7-seat MPVs because the fuel cost is much greater than for a 5-seat car.
