Why won't my Citroen C4 Picasso's satnav accept 7-digit postcodes?

About 18 months age I bought a Citroen C4 Picasso with an embedded satnav. Imagine my frustration when I found that it would only accept a partial postcode (the first five digits). That only gets me to within about five miles of my destination. I find that my main need for satnav is for the last few miles where the local details are important. I have contacted Citroen’s national head office, which seem surprised at my request for free updated software. Am I the only person with this need?

This is common. The reason is that the UK and Japan are the only countries in the world that have precise 7-digit postcodes. Most factory-fitted satnav hardware and software is designed for less precise four or five digit codes, so have less processing power, though the Germans are finally coming round to seven digits. The answer is to get a TomTom.
