Is there anywhere that can repair the SLS solenoid in my Saab 9-5 Aero?

I have had a most enjoyable nine years with my 11-year-old Saab 9-5 Aero Estate with not many breakdown problems. Recently while on holiday the Automatic Transmission warning light came on. After the initial shock, I managed to drive to an official Saab service and repair depot in Newcastle. A full check was carried out, very professionally, and the problem was identified as a SLS solenoid. All wiring was found to be sound but the solenoid would need to be replaced. Imagine my shock to be told that the total cost of replacement would be £2450.78 inc VAT. This high cost was due to the Solenoid not being available separately, but has to be the unit as a whole. Is this correct or are there dealers who provide this type of Solenoid?

It must be a GM or ZF part. Professionals like www.kingautomatics.com used to be able to repair servo valve boxes, or you might find a member of www.fedauto.co.uk who can do this.
