Would you recommend a petrol-engined car for short journeys to the golf course?

I wonder if you would be so kind as to give me some advice regarding my next car. I have been driving a BMW 530d since 2003 and using it to make very frequent long commutes to Scotland from Herts. It has proved to be a wonderfully safe and comfortable workhorse for that task, and for trips to Europe. Life changes now mean fewer long journeys, in fact mainly 5-6 miles to the golf course with occasional longer runs. I am assuming that a petrol engine would now be more appropriate but I would still like reasonable comfort, power, reliability and carrying capacity for two sets of clubs and two trolleys without the same expenditure if possible.

Yes, petrol now makes more sense. I suggest a Mazda 6 2.0i 165 Skyactiv auto (preferably SE-L Nav spec). The saloon has a colossal boot that will probably take your golf bags lengthways.
