Why does Ford publish misleading MPG figures for its Focus?

I am in the process of selling my Focus, as my Mercedes-Benz does as many MPG as it and is a much better car. Ford should hang Its head in shame advertising such a high MPG. They must use some very dodgy techniques to achieve these figures. It is about time all manufacturers were forced to publish real life figures.

Ford cannot advertise any other figure under EC law. But good fuel economy figures in the EC lab tests mean low CO2 which means low annual vehicle tax, so we are not about to upset this particular applecart. If people want to find the real life fuel economy they can find it for about 2,500 cars at www.honestjohn.co.uk/realmpg
