What do you think of the new Ford diesel engines?

Would you please kindly clarify for me as to what one can expect from the latest range of Ford diesel engines? I am currently shopping around for a nearly new Ford Focus or Mondeo car. A local Ford salesman is telling me that the new Ford diesel engines do not rely on frequent long-distance running to stop the diesel particulate filters from carbon build-up. Your advice as to how these new engines perform, and to which year models these engines are fitted, would be most appreciated.

They now have coated rather than Eolys-fuelled DPFs. I ran a Mazda 5 1.6d TS2 for a year and 11,000 miles with the new 115PS 1.6 8v diesel shared with Ford, Citroen and Peugeot and it was no trouble at all. It did not use any oil and gave 50mpg, which was good for quite a big, slab-sided 7-seater. I have yet to hear of any DPF problems with the 115PS 1.6 8v Ford/PSA diesel.
