Do garages routinely round up the price of oil during an oil change?

My wife last week took her Skoda Fabia 1.2 to the local Skoda dealer for an oil and filter change. When she came home she checked the bill a little more closely than she had at the dealer's. The price of the oil was recorded at £30 for five litres (£6 per litre). I hunted online to find that the oil capacity for this car is 3.4 litres. A difference of 1.6 litres at £6 is equal to £9.60. After contacting the dealer they agreed to let me have the surplus oil. This will result in a round trip of more than 30 miles. I wonder if this "error" is repeated elsewhere? If it is, what a nice little earner.
