Reversed into post due to failty parking sensors - can I sue the dealer?

My new Mercedes-Benz E-Class has suffered bodywork damage after I reversed into a post. The parking sensors on the car stopped working and I didn’t know the obstruction was there, hence I hit it.

I took my car into my local dealer, but they said the parking sensors are mere ‘aids’ and shouldn’t be the sole judge for distance. What are my options?
