How quickly should potholes be repaired after being reported to the local council?

Your advice to DW regarding potholes is not totally correct. DW will need to establish two basic facts: 1) When the highway authority last inspected the road. It is these regular inspections which give rise to the statutory defence. 2) whether any other person has knowledge of the existence of the hole PRIOR to that inspection. That will mean contacting people who live near the hole and other road users who may have seen or hit it. If he can establish those two facts he can sue and win. I did! If a pothole has previously been reported via www.fixmystreet.co.uk or via www.potholes.co.uk, then it is a matter of record and if it has not been repaired within a reasonable time of having been reported then the council is liable for any damage inflicted by it.
