Faulty thermostat on Citroen C3

I'm having a problem with the temperature gauge on my Citroen C3 - it keeps going into the red and setting an alarm off. I have replaced the temp sensor and fan but it still does it, normally after heavy traffic. Any ideas?

I'd guess that there must be a blockage somewhere. Could be that the thermostat has seized shut.
