Heating system making loud noises - could something be stuck inside?

The heater system on my Volkswagen Polo has started to make loud noises. The problem has got gradually worse over and now I can’t hear the radio. It sounds like something is stuck in the motor, is this possible?

Yes, could be something caught up in the fan. Crawl around in the footwells and see if you can see anything. Obviously wear something old or clean the footwells out first. If you can't see anything then up to you whether to start trying to dismantle the console (not the dash).
