Nissan X-Trail Warning lights coming on - what's the fault?

I own a Nissan X-Trail, but the “ESP off" and the "4WD" lights come on as I start the engine. Should I be worried?

If it happens during an MoT the car will fail. Might simply be a switching fault, if one of the 4WD options is ESP Off.
