Dealer won't fix noisy gearbox on Volkswagen Golf - what can I do?

The manual gearbox on my Volkswagen Golf is making a loud rattling noise when idling in neutral. I’ve approach my local dealer and been told this is a neutral gear rollover noise and they will not accept it is a problem.

I’m very unhappy as the noise is now getting worse and I consider it to be totally unacceptable as the car is less than two years old. What can I do?

They won't fix it unless it breaks. Quite common on Volkswagen gearboxes. A change of gearbox oil or some gearbox oil additive may help. One of mine lasted at least two years with STP in it. Still rattling, but still going, when I sold it.
