Can I refuse to take a driver awareness course because it’s too far away?

I was recently caught speeding in Dorset and the police have given me the choice of a driver awareness course or a fixed penalty and points.

I would like to take the course, but live in Derby and think it’s impractical for me to travel all the way Dorset, with huge additional cost and burden of overnight stays and fuel for a five hundred mile round trip.

I have asked to take a course nearer to where I live, but the police have said it’s not a national scheme and I must attend their course or take the fine. Is there any way I can appeal (or complain) as I find this unfair.

No. If you want to take the course you have to do it their way, or take the fine and the points.
