OEM DPF not fit for purpose

I have recently had the diesel particulate filter replaced on my 2008 Vauxhall Zafira, which has covered 50,000 miles. The DPF was diagnosed as being blocked and was replaced at my local garage with a non-genuine OEM DPF. Since the work was carried out my car has thrown up a DPF error every two weeks. The garage reset the errors, but was unable to determine the cause.

I have subsequently taken the car to a local diesel specialist and they believe the OEM DPF is not fit for purpose. They have also told me a genuine DPF would cost £1100 - I was originally charged £320.

The original garage that carried out the work has gone into administration and I am now looking at a £1100 bill to have the problem rectified, is it possible for me to seek a claim from the first garage to recover my initial costs?

You basically got what you paid for, but if you sue the garage that is in administration you will merely be one of a long list of creditors, and HMRC is always first on the list.
