Should someone else pay for this injector problem?
This question is about whether to litigate for a fault, seek manufacturer goodwill, or simply seek repair, and if so where?
My beloved 1.4HDI Peugeot 1007, bought by myself pre-reg and at virtually half price almost six years ago, has for two or three years frequently made gentle chuffing/ticking noises on idle, which I have recently learned is probably a leaking injector seal. I last had it serviced by Peugeot two years ago, later by an independent.
My web searches on the subject reveal a welter of people with the same problem, particularly owners of 1.4 diesel Ford Fiestas.
I'm very frightened that since I don't know what caused it, it could be a costly recurring problem.
Is it caused by an underlying faulty manufacture or design, such that a) manufacturer goodwill might be forthcoming, or b) it's worth suing Peugeot, or c) it's worth suing the quite nice retailer who sold it to me almost six years ago - although to be honest I feel bad for them and suspect it wouldn't go down well with a judge because of the original low cost?
Could it have been caused by a driver rear-ending me very hard almost three years ago, during which I can remember the sound of my engine over-revving - such that I could sue them?
Or would another course of action be best?

No one has any liability for a 6 year old car. Simply a matter of having the injector seals replaced.
