DPF warning light - what do I do?

I've owned a Suzuki Grand Vitara since Oct 2012 - It is now out of warranty. I live in the Yorkshire Dales and I'd had enough of getting stuck the wrong side of snow, ice and floodwater so bought a 4x4. Was advised to go for diesel for fuel economy. It's got 30k on the clock.

Most driving is country roads, duration on average 20 - 30 minutes. I drive the car and so does my sister - fair to say my driving style is faster than hers!

The DPF warning light has just gone on - am surprised as just done a two week touring holiday of longer runs, on motorways etc of around 800 miles.

What to do? Follow the handbook advice and drive to burn it off? Local garage says take it in for review, may need oil?

I'm surprised. Yes, the first thing to do is follow the advice in the manual. That may clear it. If it doesn't, refer to the dealer. This is a Renault 1.9 litre diesel engine, reasonably well known and not generally troublesome.
