Can my toddler travel safely in my Mazda MX5?

My daughter has a 2007 Mazda MX-5 and now has a 20-month-old son. She has been driving my Fiesta and I her MX5, but I need my car back. Should she keep the MX5 until he no longer needs a car seat? Garaging is not a problem and she does not need the money from it to get another vehicle. Or should she sell it and buy another when her son is older?

The toddler can travel in the front seat of the MX5 as long as the correct child seat and restraint are used. The rule about active passenger airbags is only for rear facing baby seats, though obviously it is better to move the seat and child as far back as possible.
