Looking for a reliable used hatchback with a large boot - what do you suggest?

My wife and I are in our 70s. We have a 13-year-old Corolla with 120,000 miles on the clock. It has a magnificent boot that we can get two full sets of clubs and trolleys and a bit of luggage in. We'd like to replace it with a car that enables us to keep our golf clubs hidden, as having them exposed compromises golf insurance. However, I might have to consider something like a secondhand Honda Jazz unless you can come up with something else. I can only afford £5000 plus the trade-in value of an Avensis that we also own.

The most spacious and versatile used hatchback is the pre-2011 Honda Civic. It's best as a manual with the 1.8iVTEC petrol engine and offers much better ride quality on 205/55 R16 tyres than on 225/40 R18s. It's the second most reliable car in Warranty Direct’s analysis of 2011/2012 warranty claims.
