I bought a Skoda Octavia DSG to use as a taxi, and the gearbox has failed four times.

I bought Skoda Octavia to use as a taxi in 2008 and I know this ‘Dynamic Shift Gearbox’ better than someone who designed it. Soon after I received my car I felt the problems, but Skoda never admitted to the fault. The DSG on my car goes wrong each year and so far has been replaced four times, and I paid only once. This time I believed I should change the car rather than repair it. It's an awful driver, this car, despite the good engine. Most of the time, when braking the gears grind each other badly, which causes the car to jerk while stopping. This goes on and on until the gearbox packs up, which takes about 30,000 to 40,000 depending on your driving. I am telling every one who is considering buying DSG automatics don't do it. It's not just only me, but everyone who bought this DSG gearbox for taxi businesses are not happy and a few of them changed their car already. I got a Toyota instead. I hope this information comes in handy.

The Getrag Powershift in Fords, Volvos and Renaults is better. The twin dry clutch boxes in Hyundais and KIAs and now in Alfa Romeos are much better.
