What happened to the ACPO speeding guideline of 10 per cent plus 2mph?

A couple of weeks ago your DT column had a letter from someone who had been caught doing 54mph in a 50mph zone. No doubt his speedo was reading nearer 60mph, so there's no real excuse. My Fox’s would have been reading 58mph. But what has happened to the ‘ten per cent over plus 2mph’ buffer before issuing a speeding ticket? And if 4mph over is sufficient to issue a ticket, why not 3, 2 or even 1mph over?

That is an ACPO guideline, but police officers are not bound to abide by it, and with falling revenues from speeding and speed awareness courses they are ratcheting down their tolerance. You can now get done for 51mph in a 50.
