I enclose a letter from Vince Cable regarding the Protection of Freedoms bill.

Vince Cable wrote to me: “The Protection of Freedom Act will make it illegal to clamp vehicles on Private Land. It should end the activities of "cowboys" who have exploited people who have parked on Private Land. There have been bad instances of this in our constituency (Twickenham). There remains the problem of outsiders who park, for instance, in private car parks, as in blocks of flats and Clause 56 seeks to address this. I recognise there are concerns about and the inability of Trade Associations to police their members. I will seek further advice from Lynne Featherstone the relevant Home Office Minister and will let you know what further she advises.”

The British Parking Association will be setting up an independent appeals scheme to operate from October 2012. Meanwhile, the BPA has asked that if I receive complaints about private parking enforcement that I feel are justified, I should ask readers to register their concern at www.britishparking.co.uk/AOS-Enquiries
