My car might be off the road waiting for a part for two months!

Today I was told by the main Mazda dealer that the part required to repair the automatic selector on my Mazda3 TS2, bought new from the same dealer in September 2007, is not available.

There isn't one in the UK or indeed in the whole of Europe and a new one will need to be ordered from Japan, with a delay before repair of up to 2 months (8 weeks).

Wouldn't you have though Mazda would have kept say one or two spares of everything in Europe?

What cars should I buy in future to avoid this trap?

There has to be an answer to this. That model of Mazda 3 1.6 auto was still sold as a new car in Thailand 2 years ago. Tell the dealer to get his finger out. Or start searching on the Internet yourself.
