Fixing a 2005 Golf EPC warning light?

I have a Golf Mk5 1.6 FSI 2005 model. The EPC light has come on permanently and it flashes when the engine is warm and the car is at idle.

Had this problem before and my non-VW garage (who are very good BTW) replaced plugs and coils at beginning of January and seemed to cure the problem. A couple of weeks ago I had to have the ABS sensor fixed - common problem I understand - because the EPS light came on.

After a few days of driving with no warning lights on, the EPC light problem started again. This week they did diagnostic and fault code(s) suggest misfire in cylinders 2 and 4, but the engine seems to be running very smoothly (107,500 miles) with no physical (or audible) suggestion of misfire. Any ideas please?

Try switching to Shell V-Power 99 Ron. Really this engine needs 99Ron and is prone to coke up on lesser petrol, but, of course, "they don't tell you that."
