What DPF servicing is needed?

My Focus 1.6TDCI 110 will be coming up to 75,000 miles in a few months. I understand that replacement of the DPF is reccomended by the manufacturer at this point. Given the price of it, is it worth doing, or is it better just to wait until it fails?

It's a lovely comfortable car and I'm looking to keep it as long as possible (it cost enough!) but I'm a little disappointed with the MPG. It's never got anywhere near the claimed MPG - around 50-52 at best. I'm unconvinced that I save much, even on 20k miles per year, as all the servicing etc. seems so much dearer than my old petrol Focus (£130 or so for a DPF flush last time!)

Only necessary if there is a problem. Normally, only the Eolys fluid reservoir would need to be routinely replenished, and this is necessary because by 75k miles it will probably be dry.
