Second-hand auto diesel hatchback suitable for towing

I wish to replace my ageing Xantia HDI. Having a degree of back trouble I need decent ride quality, though I realise it won't be as good as the Citroen.

I tried an Hyundai ix35 and a Mercedes B200, but neither had an acceptable ride. It does need to be an automatic diesel and capable of regularly towing my glider trailer, which weighs just under 1,000kgs, and occasionally a slightly heavier caravan.

Better a torque converter auto for towing and the diesel ix35 and Sportage are torque converter.
