Red engine system warning light

I have an engine system warning light come on in my 55-plate Focus TDCi (red cog like with exclamation mark in centre) any ideas please? Car has done just over 93,000 miles and was going to get belts change when this happened.

I drove it home about two miles and found the turbo didn't seem to kick in going up hill as it usually does.

Well the red cog is a power train warning light, and will come on when a ECU controlled function has a problem. It could well be a Glow plug or Glow plug relay fault, but it may be best to have a diagnostic check carried out in the first instance.

Look for a good garage in the HJ website and talk to them in the first instance.
