Jeep Cherokee Problem

My 57-Plate Jeep Cherokee loses power periodically - and the result is that I pull up, with the engine shuddering, and then switch off. After standing for a few minutes, I turn the key - and it fires up as though nothing had happened.

It has been diagnostically checked to no avail, and the problem happens whether the it is hot or cold. What could be the reason for this?

Unfortunately we're not sure what may be causing this. Try posting it in the Technical Matters section of the Backroom forum where someone may have experienced a similar problem and can shed some light on a possible fix:
