Anti-pollution fault

My Peugeot 308 has “System states: anti-pollution system fault” and engine light showing when I start the engine. Everything is working fine and the car is running with no problems. 30,000 miles on the clock. This has happened several times since I bought the car and has always gone away after a while.

I have contacted my dealer who wants £72 to check the car. If there is nothing wrong they will just clear the fault. I think I should not have to pay if there is nothing wrong with the car as this is not a fault. Please advise if this is a common fault with this car and if this is a chargeable repair.

This inevitably happens after a succession of short runs from cold starts which clog the diesel particulate filter. If you then take the car on a run long enough for the DPF to regenerate, it then burns off the soot that is blocking it and the problem goes away.
