My car is yet to arrive but my registration document has

I ordered an Abarth 595 Turismo on 2nd. August from an Abarth main dealer. Delivery quoted up to 12 weeks. Received a V5 for the car dated 28th September as registration date with my personal reg.no. The dealer has repeatedly given me different delivery dates, but explains that the car is not with them. They say the registration was a mistake and have offered a full tank of fuel on delivery. Do you think that this is genuine, or are they lying? Have they damaged the car and are repairing it? Is it legal to register a car which is not insured? I have not insured the car, it had 7 days free insurance from Fiat. I would be very grateful for your opinion

Dealers get allocated clutches of registrations and the dealer will have used one of these to transfer your cherished number to the documentation for the new car when it arrives.
