Corolla loss of power - could turbo be the issue.

The engine malfunction light came on and there was immediate loss of power (no revs when pressing the accelerator). It was diagnosed as the EGR valve. It was cleaned up and was then fine for about 3 months. Had it cleaned again and this time it lasted about 9 months.

I took it back to the same garage with the view of fitting a new EGR valve, but they want to investigate the problem a bit further because they now say it is the Turbo. So they don't want me to pay out £320 to fit a new EGR valve if the problem is with the Turbo which would also be expensive.

Can a fault with the Turbo affect the EGR valve?

If the turbo oil seal has failed it will be introducing engine oil to the combustion cycle and the EGR won't like that.
