Citroen Berlingo diesel on veg oil?

Thinking about buying a Berlingo as a cheap holdall and for my kids to learn to drive in. Could I run the old 1.9D diesel on filtered waste veg oil, with a separate tank and heater? I assume the later 2.0HDi would be asking for trouble. I'm happy to do the filtering myself and like the idea of getting one over on the Government.

Alternatively should I just go for a 1.4 petrol and plant a tree?
