Rough running Octavia vRS

I have an 07 plate petrol Octavia VRS with 72k on the clock. Recently it has begun to run roughly when the engine is cold. At idle it is probably best described as a slight misfire that can be felt from within the cabin. When driving it is most noticable between 1750 and 2500 rpm and it is hesitant until it clears that rev range. Once up to full temperature all symptoms vanish. It has been run on Shell fuel.

It has been to my local VAG independant garage for diagnosis. No fault codes are present and real time data is within the expected parameters. Any ideas where to go next?

I wonder if the timing belt has stretched and the timing has slipped very slightly out. Sorry if that's a wholly inadequate rough guess. It would be overdue a timing belt and waterpump change if it has not had one yet. (I used to run the same motor on a Leon 20VT.)
