Removing a DPF - what repercussions?

Are there any repurcussions on MOT renewal, and exhaut emmissions if I have my DPF removed and replaced with a SS pipe then remap. For how long will this procedure be effective?
I have been quoted £599 for this task by a company called Longlife in Chester. Do you know them, and is this a reasonable rate for this task? Alternatively, do you know of any reliable alternative operators nearer to my home town of Lytham St Annes, please?

It's illegal, so there will eventually be repercussions even though there is no inspection for this in place yet.
