Ford Focus won't start after standing

My Focus Ghia Tdci had been sat on the drive for the past two months while I was on military training. I have come back and started up my car after putting a new battery in and it started, but soon after it cut out.

On the second attempt it cut out almost immediately. When I turn the key I can't year any humming noise from the car, which I used to hear beforehand.

All the car does now is try to start - you can hear the starter cranking but it is not firing up. Do you have any ideas as to how I can get the car running again?

Follow this process.
1. Make sure the battery is fully charged.
2. Then disconnect the battery
3. Leave for 10 mins
4. Reconnect the battery BUT DO NOT SWITCH ANYTHING ON AT ALL
5. Leave for 30 mins
6. Then try to restart the car.
Hopefully this would have allowed the ECU to reset itself
