When I lift the clutch pedal i get a squeeky noise. could this be a bearing or more serious the timing belt?

Depends where it's coming from. If from load on the engine, it might be the timing belt but, being toothed, they don;t normally squeak. If after a cold start it might be the aux belt on the alternator, which is not toothed. But might be the pedal mechanism or the clutch release bearing.
