E-Class or 5 Series?

I need to buy a smarter second hand car for work to look more successful.

I am considering an E-Class and a 5 Series - both diesel. I am tall and need a big boot but do not want an estate and fear the costs of a 4x4.

I do not want the car to look like a taxi of chauffeur car.

I have been told to look at 530d by my garage, but I am confused about auto or manual. E-Class, I have no idea about.

Budget £10,000 or at a push £13,000.

If E Class, has to be post August 2006, so 2006/56 or later, to get the 2,000 necessary improvements. The improved cars have a venetian blind effect over the headlights. Or an E60 520d / 530d, which will look less like a private chauffeur hire car. Obviously avoid black because that brands it as a taxi.
